Parents and Campers: The following are answers to the most commonly asked questions.

1. Which group will my camper be in? Safety Protocols

All Current Safety guidelines are observed. Frequent hand washing and sanitizing is mandatory. Campers are put into different groups depending on their age and grade. Each group participates in age appropriate games, sports, and activities. Here is the general breakdown:

  • Starfish/Lionfish = Pre-K/DK (all campers must be 6 years old by June 1 or K)
  • Seahorse/Stingray = Entering Kindergarten
  • Dusky/Striped/Spinner Dolphin = Entering 1st grade
  • Barracuda/Marlin = Entering 2nd grade
  • Sharks = Entering 3rd/4th Grade
  • Swordfish = Entering 4th/5th/6th Grade
  • Triggers = Entering 6th/7th/8th Grade
  • CIT = Entering 9th/10th/11th Grade
  • Jr. Counselor = Entering 12th Grade / Flag Football / Basketball / Soccer

You will be notified before camp begins as to which group your camper will be in.  Currently, all requests will be honored.

2. When can I meet the Coaches and learn about the camp philosophy?

 

Parents, guardians and all friends are invited to meet the Saken Sand&Sea / BeachVolleyballCamps.com staff online or at open house. Camp tours are available. Please call to set a private meeting! Flag Football Camp, Basketball Camp, Soccer Camp, and Volleyball Camp Coaches are also available.

 

 

 

3. How do I get Schedules and Weekly Information?

 

 

Consult the Saken Daily Calendar that will be sent to you upon enrollment. Additional schedules of upcoming events and activities will be emailed or sent home with your camper on an as needed basis. Celebrating 30 years of FUN!!!!!!!!!

 

4. What are the camp hours?

 

Camp hours are as follows:
9:00-3:00pm Traditional Camp / Sports Clinics
8:50am Early morning care / Drop off (optional)
2:50:00-3:10 Pick-up
3:10-3:30pm extended care if needed

All campers must be picked up by 3:30pm Unless special arrangements have been made. Please let staff member know if you will need late pick up 310.273-2459

 

5. How does Pick-up and Drop off work? Where is Camp Located?

All campers in our youngest groups must be signed or checked in and out daily, no exceptions. Parents /  Guardians are encouraged to stay in their car and staff are happy to help escort campers to check in.

A camp Director MUST be notified in advance if anyone other than a parent or guardian will be picking up a camper .

6. What is a typical week at Saken Sand & Sea?

 

There will be a special theme each day and specific athletic activities. Please consult your Saken Calendar sent to you after you completed registration and/or visit us on the web. We also encourage you to talk to your camper’s coach and counselors to find out more details.

 

 

 

7. What do I bring to camp?

A lunch with plenty of liquids and a snack. A couple of campers are allergic to peanut butter so please provide a peanut butter substitute when possible. If your camper only eats peanut butter we can separate into different lunch areas. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation with this matter. Bring towel, bathing suit, sun screen (Must apply sunscreen before coming to camp, we will assist with re-apply if you tell us to), your new Saken Sand & Sea rash guard to help protect you from the sun, hat, and any other appropriate sports equipment for the week. You Must Label all clothes, towels etc.

 

8. How do I order Hot Lunch? What will be served for Hot Lunch?

 

Hot lunch is currently on hold: Hot Lunch was offered Five Days a week. We serve an entrée, vegetable, fruit, dessert and drink. Cost $10 per lunch. You may pay in the morning at the Hot Lunch Table, or when you login to your registration portal and register ahead of time.

 

 

9. Sample Daily Schedule: (subject to change)

 

The typical daily schedule is as follows:

9:00-9:30 Check in, group warm ups and meeting with campers
9:30-10:15 First activity Sanitize – Wash Hands
10:15-10:30 Snack / Sanitize – Wash Hands
10:30-11:30 Second activity / Swimming or water play / Sanitize – Wash Hands
11:30-12:30 Swimming or water play / other sports /activities/ games offered
12:30-12:50 Lunch / Sanitize – Wash Hands
12:50-1:15 Free choice games, camp group games, special themes and activities
1:15-2:00 Third activity / Swimming or water play / Sanitize – Wash Hands
2:00-2:35 Shave Ice or Cool treat.
2:35-3:00 Clean up and cool down games, get ready to leave. Sanitize – Wash Hands
3:00-3:15 Pick up your camper(s)

 

10. Can I add Weeks?

 

 

Yes, provided we have space. Please let us know as soon as possible. Camp will fill up this summer due to limited Capacity. Most 2022 days were sold out.

 

 

11. Sports Specific Specialty Camps

 

Our sports specific specialty camps/ clinics are for the athlete who wants to play that sport just a little more during the day/week. We offer a Baseball Camp, Soccer Camp, Flag Football Camp, Basketball Camp and Sinjin Smith Volleyball Camp: On their first day campers will receive a separate schedule for these programs. Please bring appropriate gear and clothes for the sports specific camp you will be attending. Example for baseball: Cleats, glove, hat, bat, etc. These camps are designed for athletes in grades 3-9. Volleyball goes to 12th grade.

13. What about Swimming / Water Play?

 

We offer swimming and or water play everyday at all locations. This is an optional activity, however, we ask that all campers arrive or have  swimsuits ready to cool off and at least put their feet in the water. Certified Lifeguards are in and out of the water supervising all campers. Young campers must stay in shallow area where they can touch bottom with knees / waist above water line at all times. Sunscreen will be reapplied if you request it, please ask your coach. Camp Rash guards are MANDATORY in the Water.

14. Do I need to fill out a medical release form and release of liability?

 

Yes. Medical release forms are part of the information you will fill out when you register online. All pictures/ video taken at Camp may be used for promotional material in relation to the Camp.

 

 

 

15. Camp Clothes. We love the Camp Shirts, Rash Guards, and Hats! Can we buy more?

 

Absolutely! There are sizes for the whole family. Place your order with any coach or call the Camp Office 310.273-2459. Kids sizes: S, M, L and Adults S, M, L, XL, and XXL. Great new colors, excellent to work out in (We encourage campers to wear their camp shirts every day and rash guards in the water, Rash Guards are Mandatory for Water Play). Camp Rash guards must be worn in the water at all times.

 

 

 

 

 

 

16. Missed a day? Going to miss a day? Refund Policy?

Two make-up days can be given to campers who are ill or miss camp due to special circumstances.  The Current Camp deposit is non-refundable. Covid Time $35.00 / Winter Spring Camp $100.00 /Summer Non Covid $250.00. There will be no refunds after June 1. Please note: if there is a special circumstance we are always eager to work with families whenever possible. We ask you let us know your situation as soon as possible. Thank you for your cooperation.

 

 

17. What if my Camper misbehaves?

 

If your camper is asked to leave for Disciplinary reasons there will be no refund. Good sportsmanship and good manners are expected.

Saken Camp has a ZERO TOLERANCE policy for bullying/unkind behaviors. It is extremely important that you discuss this with your camper(s), as any/all campers who bully other campers will be asked to leave and will be unable to return. NO refunds will be given to any campers that bully others.
